Step by Step Images on How- To make a "Butt Joint" or "Miter Joint"
Welcome to Acorcore's How-To  series. Acrocore's practical installation guides and pictures are worth a thousand words. We are creating brief, but focused, how-to-steps to show you how to perform basic  installation tasks easily and accurately. Review local building codes before proceeding with installation

STEP 1
Measure length required for miter or straight cut.

STEP 2
Cut  the two mouldings that you will be joining together. Cut a 45 degree angle for a mitered corner or a straight cut for mouldings that you will butt together.

STEP 3
Dry-fit mouldings together to assure that the cuts you made properly join together. Do this whether you make a miter cut or a straight cut.

STEP 4
Take a 16 Grit hand sander and lightly sand the edge of both mouldings that you will be joining together. You want to slightly rough the edge of the cement. It is okay that the foam gets sanded.

STEP 5
Using a hot knife remove a 1/4'' to 3/8'' portion of foam at the edge of the cement coating. If you do not have a hot knife you can use the edge of a hand strowl to remove the foam.

STEP 6
After the foam at the edge of the cement is removed,  lightly scrape the remaining foam to create a rough surface. This will allow for the "joint cement" to create a stronger bond. Clean away any loose foam that was created by the scraping.

STEP 7
Apply "Acro-coat Cement" to both ends of mouldings that you will be joining together. You want to put a little extra cement on the joints so when the mouldings are joined togther the cement will Ooze through.

STEP 8
After the cement is applied to both ends of moulding, push together allowing the excess cement to Ooze from the joint.

STEP 9
Remove excess cement from the moulding joint. You can also take a damp sponge and wipe lightly afterwards. Let joint cure and apply finish color  as per specifications.
